Invitation to the Sustainability in Higher Education Conference | 21 - 23 September 2026 | Berlin We are delighted to invite you to our conference “Sustainability in Higher Education – Between Transformation and Vibe Shifts”, which will take place from 21 - 23 September 2026 at Freie Universitaet Berlin, in collaboration with Una Europa. Following a Whole Institution Approach, the conference aims to critically examine the current status of sustainability in higher education, tracing how the rhetoric of “transformation” has given way to more complex modes of negotiation, adaptation, and resilience. The program offers a self-reflective engagement with the role of science communication and higher education institutions in advancing climate action, fostering biodiversity, and social responsibility. On Tuesday and Wednesday (September 22-23), we will continue with 6 workshops, which will present ongoing research and institutional activities, providing a platform for dialog on how universities can embed sustainability more deeply within their structures. Workshop 1: "University Sustainability Governance in Times of Transformation and Vibe Shifts” Workshop 2: "Teaching and Education for Sustainable Development" Workshop 3: "Finding the Right Voice: How Universities Can Communicate Sustainability Without Losing Credibility" Workshop 4: "Starting with a New Vibe: Handprint and Nature Positivity for Biodiversity" Workshop 5: "Responsible Research – Involving Circularity and Interdisciplinarity from the Beginning in the Rese…" Workshop 6: "Una Europa Student Project Incubator – GreenChem Hackathon" Additionally, the conference will offer networking opportunities as well as various informal get-togethers. We will inform all selected contributors by the middle of June.

Join us in Birmingham for a day of exploring and discussing sustainability in early childhood and care. Our 2026 Conference will take place at The Studio, Birmingham City Centre on Saturday 7th November. Keynote Speakers: Verity Campbell-Barr Verity is Professor of Early Childhood Education at the University of Plymouth. She has led international research on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for early childhood practice, analysed the full range of early childhood degrees in England, and examined early years workforce policy and development issues across the UK. The early years workforce is often framed as being in crisis, which undermines efforts to build a sustainable profession while reflecting real recruitment and retention challenges. Drawing on research from across the UK and Ireland, Verity's presentation explores practical solutions to support, develop, and maintain a high-quality, sustainable early years workforce.

Young people are growing up with overlapping crises: climate change, conflict, displacement, cost-of-living pressures and rising anxiety about the future. Many bring these questions and worries into the classroom, and teachers are often left to hold complex conversations without feeling fully equipped. This webinar will explore two elements of the citizenship curriculum. First, how do we teach children about resilience? And second, how do we work with young people to discuss the climate debate? Learning outcomes By the end of this webinar, attendees will: Will have explored ideas for teaching resilience with young people Will have more confidence for leading and teaching a curriculum which looks at climate issues and sustainability We will discuss: Which elements of citizenship or personal development are most engaging for students? Approaches in schools to build belonging and resilience in students Approaches which are effective in teaching students about the climate crisis How can we evaluate the impact of our teaching in these areas? What lessons can we learn from the British Red Cross Humankind programme? Given that the curriculum review intends to embed climate and sustainability education throughout England’s school curriculum, what are the key challenges schools face in teaching about these issues and how can we overcome them? Top tips in leading a citizenship and personal development curriculum.

Education for Sustainable Development This course, which forms part of WWF's Education for a sustainable planet learning path, aims to help you further your understanding of sustainability and equip you with relevant information, tools, activities and good ideas from other skilled practitioners to make Education for Sustainable Development a cornerstone of your teaching practice. What will you gain from the course? An understanding of what is meant by a ‘whole school approach’ to ESD Tools and guidance for implementing a whole school approach to ESD in your institution; An understanding of the positive impact a school can have in the wider community and beyond; and Inspiration and ideas from case studies of successful whole school ESD implementation from around the world.
