Making Vocab Stick: Enhancing English Acquisition in Young Learners
👩🏫 How can we make vocabulary learning effective and enjoyable for young learners? Join specialist Bex Adlard as she explores how visually led, topic-based teaching, combined with the games and puzzles children naturally love, helps learners aged 6–10 acquire and retain English vocabulary. 📖 Examine then how vocabulary is processed and stored in long-term memory, emphasizing the role of familiar puzzles and games to unlocking vocabulary retention. Drawing on examples from the Collins 1,000 English Words Activity Books, teachers will leave with a choice of actionable ideas to implement in their classrooms. ✍ The session also addresses the challenge of extending learning beyond the classroom, particularly for learners with limited home support with English. By providing independent, engaging activities, this approach helps bridge the gap between school and home learning.
