Join us for this one-day virtual masterclass for an indepth look at how to identify pupil needs and put in place and monitor effective interventions. There has been a significant increase in the number of children and young people with complex needs now attending our mainstream schools. This has resulted in a difficulty in SENCOs and teachers being able to identify individual needs and put in place appropriate interventions. Alongside this is the difficulty that schools have to engage Education Psychologists and other professionals to support this identification process. The four broad areas of need as laid out in the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and the descriptions used in the school census do not adequately describe some of the needs of these complex learners. During this session, Lorraine will explain some of the difficulties schools are having with this identification process and offer support and advice in. We Love SENCos is coming to Birmingham We Love SENCos is a practical, thought-provoking day for the people leading SEND and inclusion in schools. Our first event brought together 250 SENCos and inclusion professionals at the London School of Economics. What made the day special was both the incredible speakers on stage, and the opportunity for people doing some of the most demanding jobs in education to meet, speak and share ideas that could make a difference back in school. We are bringing that same spirit to Birmingham - with a bigger programme, more choice and more free stuff! SEND is changing. This event will help you prepare. The Department for Education has set out significant proposals for reforming the SEND system through Putting Children and Young People First. Schools are also beginning to work with the new £1.6 billion Inclusive Mainstream Fund, alongside emerging National Inclusion Standards, inclusion strategies, Experts at Hand and a greater emphasis on identifying and meeting needs earlier in mainstream settings. These changes could reshape how SEND support is funded, organised and delivered. But SENCos and school leaders cannot wait for every detail of reform to be settled. They are already managing increasing levels of need, stretched budgets, growing workloads and pressure from pupils, families and colleagues who need answers now. Session 1: Introducing and Experimenting How can your organisation respond to the enormous challenges of our current moment with integrity, courage and imagination? How can your learning community become a place where alternative futures are not simply discussed, but actively created? Delivered in partnership with The Bridge at Wellington College, this innovative year-long professional learning programme is designed for educators, leaders and practitioners working across schools, colleges, training providers and wider learning organisations who want to move beyond reacting to challenges and instead cultivate the conditions for meaningful, lasting change. As a taster of the programme, Elke will lead a session at the 2026 UK Festival of Education exploring two urgent questions: How can educators respond to a world in crisis and create alternative futures in the present? and How can imagination be put to work in educational spaces as a catalyst for change? The session will offer insight into the wider module-based programme running throughout the 2026/27 academic year. Through a blend of thought-provoking dialogue, practical tools and collaborative inquiry, participants will explore imaginative approaches to improvement and transformation, shifting the focus from problem-solving and crisis intervention towards possibility, purpose and integrity. Over 12 months, participants will engage in two in-person and three online learning experiences, supported by coaching, peer collaboration and structured opportunities for reflection and discussion. All participants will also gain access to a dedicated community space on the EduScape platform, enabling ongoing connection, collaboration and resource sharing throughout the programme. Participants will identify a challenge or opportunity within their own organisation and work collaboratively to co-design an imaginative and actionable change project. Whether focused on culture, curriculum, learner engagement, wellbeing, leadership or organisational development, the programme will support participants to turn ideas into meaningful action.
