This course equips you with the resources, skills and training needed to successfully implement the holistic framework when teaching climate preparedness with your young people.  Learning outcomes By completing this course, you will: Demonstrated an understanding of a holistic approach to climate education and why this is appropriate given the topic. Have gained an understanding of what extreme weather and eco-anxiety are, how they affect young people, and how to support emotional wellbeing through climate education. Identified key benefits of using the Weather Together toolkit to teach climate preparedness. Gained practical skills to use the Weather Together toolkit with young people. This course covers an introduction to teaching about migration using a trauma-informed approach, including the tools, knowledge and resources you need to feel confident teaching about migration, even if you have young people with lived experience of migration in the room. Learning outcomes By completing this course, you will: Understand the experiences of people with refugee status or people seeking asylum, whilst defining key terminology. Understand the impact of trauma on learners and apply six trauma-informed principles to teaching about migration. Use our teacher resources to engage and support your students. Explore and understand the challenge of increasing school absence for disadvantaged pupils, those with SEND, and those known to children’s social care. You will come away ready to implement new ideas and proven strategies in your school. This year, almost two in five disadvantaged pupils (37.9 per cent) were persistently absent. This is also double the rate for their better-off peers. Similar statistics apply to those with SEND and those known to children’s social care. This means the attendance gap has widened by 6.7 percentage points, rising from 14.5 per cent in pre-pandemic 2018-19 to 21.2 per cent this year. This online session has been designed to help school leaders identify the causes and consequences of differences and disadvantages and put in place proven strategies to help improve attendance and outcomes for those learners.
